graveface records just launched a kickstarter campaign for the long-awaited will schaff art book and jason molina 10″. supporting through kickstarter (at the $60 level) earns you a hand-numbered copy as well as limited colored vinyl. there are of course several other options and benefits for backing the project. graveface will be donating 10% of whatever is raised to the jason molina medical fund. the songs on the 10″ were recorded several years ago while jason was still living in london.
the trials and errors 2xlp and sojourner cd box set are available again from secretly canadian. they’ve even set up a special mailorder site with vinyl and cd bundles to help you or your favorite holiday gift recipient get caught up with all things meco.
Many of you have inquired as to Jason’s whereabouts and well-being since he canceled his tours with Will Johnson in 2009. Over the last two years Jason has been in and out of rehab facilities and hospitals in England, Chicago, Indianapolis, and New Orleans. It has been a very trying time for Jason, his friends, and his family. Although no one can be sure what the future holds, we feel very encouraged by the recent steps Jason has taken on the road towards becoming healthy and productive once again. Unfortunately, because he has no medical insurance, he has accrued substantial medical bills. We are asking all friends of Jason’s music to come together with a showing of financial support for him. Please consider a contribution to his medical fund. Feel free to forward this to any and all appropriate parties. We are hoping to raise whatever funds we possibly can for Jason. He is currently working on a farm in West Virginia raising goats and chickens for the next year or so, and is looking forward to making great music again. Please also show your support and well wishes by sending letters and postcards to:

‘nashville moon’ and ‘the black ram’ have been available through itunes/emusic/etc since sojourner’s physical release but until last week ’shohola’ and the ’sun sessions’ ep were digital outcasts. with the march 2nd release of ’sojourner discs 3 and 4′, the full sojourner box set is now available for digital purchase through your favorite online outlet.
unfortunately, jason molina will not be able to tour in the new year due to his present health issues and the american dates for january and february have all been cancelled. jason molina is (still) extremely disappointed but it is impossible for him to be on the road at the present time.
due to health reasons, the upcoming european tour dates behind the molina and johnson album have been cancelled. jason molina is extremely disappointed but it is impossible for him to be on the road at the present time.
the magnolia boys took a break during their summer tour to record a daytrotter session. it was posted earlier today so check it out for two songs from josephine, two older songs and two brand new ones (including another warren zevon cover).
the collaboration between jason molina and will johnson of centro-matic will be released by secretly canadian on november 3rd as molina and johnson. the first mp3 from the album has been posted in the media section. the two will tour europe as a duo in december (see tour dates) and then return for an extensive u.s. tour together in early 2010. there’s even a new site for the album up at www.molinajohnson.com that should fully blossom in the coming months.
for one week only, pitchfork.tv will be streaming the hour-long documentary by ben schreiner on the creation of meco’s new album ‘josephine’.
as the band heads out to europe, secretly canadian is putting the finishing touches on the second magnolia electric co. 7″ of 2009. due out on september 22nd, the a-side sports ‘rider. shadow. wolf.’, which was tracked with steve albini during the ‘josephine’ sessions. the b-side is a stripped-down, early version of ‘josephine’ with will johnson of centro-matic, recorded during sessions for their collaboration due in the not-too-distant future.
magnolia electric co. will serve as ‘the roots in residence’ artist next month on sirius/xm radio’s ‘the loft’. every sunday in august, a new episode will air featuring in-studio performances and interviews with the members of magnolia electric co.
josephine is available in finer record stores today. for those of you that are looking to shake someone’s hand when you purchase, the band is on tour in the u.s. right now with copies on cd/lp.
starting today you can pre-order josephine directly from secretly canadian on lp/cd and get an instant download of the album along with a special bonus - mp3s of the record store day 7″! if for some bizarre reason you’re still undecided, a second mp3 from the album has been posted in the media section.
npr has selected ‘whip-poor-will’ as their song of the day. swing by their site to read up on it and hear a stream of the ‘josephine’ track.
the new magnolia electric co. album josephine will be released by secretly canadian on july 21st, 2009. you can nab a free mp3 of the title track over in the media section. to support the record they’ll head out july 10th on a month long tour crossing the u.s followed by a few weeks of full-band touring in europe. see tour dates for all the details.
we have signal caught up with magnolia electric co. during last fall’s tour to film the birmingham show and talk to the band. the public television program has now posted the episode online over at vimeo.
the “it’s made me cry” ep will be released digitally via itunes/emusic/etc on may 19th. as with the limited 7″, all proceeds will benefit the evan farrell memorial fund (click the link to donate!).
i’ve spoken with jason and while he’s happy to see all the business record store day 2009 brought to independent music retailers he was disappointed that so many fans were unable to obtain the 7″. he asks that rather than pay exhorbitant ebay prices (none of which will benefit evan’s family) you consider waiting for the digital release (which does).
the money you save will be better spent on the elaborate will schaff coffeetable book with the jason molina 10″ that is due out later this year on graveface records.
april 18th, 2009 marks the second annual independent record store day and this year magnolia electric co. will be in on the party with it’s made me cry, a new 7″ ep that was recorded last fall at russian recording before the u.s. tour (not to be confused with the album they recorded at electrical audio after the tour, which now goes by the name of josephine).
the only substantial touring for the year starts next week with a handful of solo dates in england followed by two weeks of american full-band date next month.
after hitting the road this fall, magnolia electric co. will bunker down with steve albini in electrical audio to record their next album, tentatively titled ‘a map of the falling stars’. if all goes according to plan, it should see release sometime in 2009.
