In my mind there is little doubt that "Whip-Poor-Will" is the pinnacle moment here; regarding the steel, I'm pretty certain the human ear was designed to hear specifically this sound. Since it's an oldie, however, I'm going to grant myself another choice and say that "Knoxville Girl" is the best song written and composed for the album. I see the ghost.

Gotta love Whip-Poor-Will but since it's such an old song compared to the rest of the album, I tend to dig Shiloh and O Grace. But really I can't pick a fave ... someone else pick one for me.

the more I listen to the record, the start of the second side catches my attention most. "The Handing Down" is wonderful (and sounds GREAT live).
I also like "Hope Dies Last" and "Map of the Falling Sky." Somebody already mentioned the lyrics to the latter. They ARE amazing.........

Yeah, I feel bad for slighting "The Handing Down" in my initial post, because it really is a great song. One of the best moments on the album is when the bass thunders under the lyrics, "An anchor and a crown . . . "; Mr. Farrell would be proud.

I quite like the outtake "This House." I probably would have included it on the album over something like "Hope Dies Last."

I really dig all of the songs, with certain songs rising to the top as favorites. Right now, I'm liking "Hope Dies Last" the best. Yesterday is was "O! Grace." Great record!

I quite like the outtake "This House." where did you listen to it? It's available to purchase on iTunes, along with three other outtakes/bonus tracks.

Here is another vote for An Arrow In The Gale. I love the short and sweet ones; Two Blue Lights is totally amazing.
