i haven't thought about that stuff in ages... i've known brendon for about five years now and he has a bazillion recordings that have never been issued. i have the EOB4 compilation (shout-out to thomas/tract who used to handle songsohia.com!) and just checked out the track again - other than brendon's vocals and a couple guitars there ARE a few 'ooohs' from jason towards the end. i'll have to try and ask brendon what the deal is with those and persuade him to release 'em!

I just a updated the list. I think it's complete as of today. However, I haven't yet added the songs from the RECORDING JOSEPHINE DVD because, although I've watched it twice, I haven't yet noted which exclusive tracks are complete versions. This is from the DVD notes:

"Audio for this documentary was sourced from studio mixes and live recordings and is exclusive to the film."

And here are the songs:

Rider. Shadow. Wolf.
This House
O! Grace
Heartbreak At Ten Paces
Astrabel*
Song For Willie
Rock Of Ages
Shenandoah
London Bridge*
The Handing Down
Shiloh
Josephine
An Arrow In The Gale

The two songs marked with "*" have not seen an official release in any format/version except for this DVD. If the disc is still available and you don't have it yet, I highly recommend it!...

Peace.

also, do you guys ever trade digital versions of the rare stuff?  I have a nice collection but its missing a lot of the the stuff listed in this thread.  I'd be more than willing to reciprocate if someone was interested in hooking me up with some tracks

I downloaded from somewhere years ago, a radically different version of "I Cannot Have Seen The Light"; it's a solo live performance, has several different verses, and runs somewhere around 8 minutes

lyrics:

"Again you're swinging low
and you hit me below the belt
All right since it's a fair fight
I'd say this is the best that I have felt
in a long long time
in a long long time

Every now and then it happens again
I cant remember what comes first
Is it the hurt
knowing that it hurts
Is it the hurt
knowing that it hurts

Every since I turned my life around
it still happens time to time
I can't tell which hurt is yours
which hurt is mine
which hurt is yours
which hurt is mine

Now me and my friends in the old days
we was growing up in the usual way
a little bit Rolling Stones
a little bit more George Jones
Denim and leather and leave us the hell alone
We thought we saw the light

Now a few of them friends drunk as skunks
coming home underage from the bar
The train was rolling down the line
and they was both making pretty good time
till they saw the light

Now another friend he was different from them
lived all alone in this big shitty house
For company he kept a gun
and you all know how it probably worked out
He thought he saw the light
going out

Now another friend who i thought would last
he said "you know man I ain't gonna last
no one can live with all this hurt"
And he walked off the face of the earth

Now the thing I used to say to all of them
and I'm still saying it tonight
is you don't have to be all right
all the time
No one has to be all right
all of the time
No one has to be all right
all of the time
It don't matter whose side you're on
that should depend on the fight
And it don't matter if you're here or gone
that should depend on the night
you think you saw the light

i lost a lot of friends in the dark
and they was in longer than i been
so where was the light
for them
i cannot have seen the light
i cannot have seen the light
i cannot have seen the light
i cannot have seen the light"

Does anyone have any information about this version? It's a fantastic version of the song, and has what I think are some of Molina's best lyrics.

I have no idea where it came from, or when it was recorded, or where. I would assume sometime around the time of the What Comes After The Blues album, but that's only the most basic guess. In the July 2004 Q&A that was posted here, Molina makes reference to being in "denim and leather" bands, so maybe that phrase was floating around in his head/made its way into the song sometime around then? Who knows.

Nope: it has basically the same verses & running time, but the version I've got is acoustic, and considerably better sound quality, and the performance isn't quite so ragged.

The question this brings to my mind is whether there are any other "director's cut" alternate versions of other MeCo & S:O tracks--not just slightly different cuts, but radically expanded/different versions.

I just added a song I was unaware of before: "Pyrate II (Even Now)". Thanks, merch!...

Peace.
