jason molina solo 10" with book.

"Magnolia Electric Co. main man Jason Molina will release a solo 10" to accompany a new coffee table book by artist Will Schaff. Graveface will release the book/record combo."

anybody have any other news on this release?

This collaboration with Will Schaff is 8 field recordings I did specifically for the project. It is a little like "the Ghost", but the fidelity is better by far in most places. The first MECo record with the Owl and artwork done by Will was something early on that founded our working relationship and friendship. I was a huge fan of his work that I had been collecting over the years and it turned out that he was a fan. I sent him some early demos and he came up with all of that wonderful artwork. This is a reversal of sorts since I am sending him more raw recordings and he and Graveface records have been kind enough to include my contribution in song form. This is going to be an amazing book and I'm not expecting it to sell on the fact that it has some of my songs but I think they are very good and I was happy to leave the studio and work in a less traditional way. I have no exact release date from Graveface but they are wonderful Chicago folks and will be happy to point you in the direction you need. I know by the nature of a project like this (after the enormous effort put into Sojourner by Secretly Canadian and Meco), that this record/book will be limited as all get out. I'm already biting my nails to make sure I get one. My problem is that I give away all my records to friends. I even had to order Sojourner because I gave my copies away. Hope this is of help. JMo.

Greetings, I just spoke with Will Shaff about his coffee table book. It will be released through Graveface records and there is great news...Will is doing new artwork for the 10" record that has 8 new songs of mine. If you don't know Shaff's work it won't take but a finger walk on the interweb to find some of it. He also sometimes has original pieces or custom pieces up on that eBauction site. He's brilliant. If you want to keep this punk rock world full of great bands and metal chicks we have to support them all. How great would your kitchen look with an original Crosshair or Jay Ryan? Tax refund here we go! - JMo.

Yeah, awesome stuff. Schaff's stuff is brilliant, everything from the Magnolia Electric Co record to the Okkervil River covers to all the stuff of his on his Flickr account. He's done some stuff based on Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea which is pretty interesting as well. Love his style and love his message. Thanks so much for the info, JM. I'm definitely gonna try to get my hands on a copy of this. Hopefully, there'll be enough of them. I'll try to stay on top of it and check the Graveface website often.

It will be an 11x11 massive art book of all the work he's done for various bands with notes by said bands. It comes with a 10 inch of exclusive music by the fucking brilliant Jason Molina. This 10 inch contains some of the most beautiful and intimate music I've ever heard. Look for this around Xmas.

just got an update from graveface records

William Schaff book w/ Jason Molina 10 inch - I originally wanted this to be ready for an Xmas release but we've run into a few snags. I'll post an official release date soon.
